soup #5

On Monday I decided to make the winner of our company's recent Chili Cook-off. Strange thing was, there's no chili of any kind in the recipe. However, it was very tasty and not a bean was left at the end of the night. Here's the recipe:

1 lb ground beef
3/4 lb bacon, cut into small pieces
1 cup chopped onion
2 - 15 oz (or close) cans pork and beans
1 - 16 oz (or close) can kidney beans, drained
1 - 16 oz (or close) butter beans, drained
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 Tbsp liquid smoke
3 Tbsp white vinegar
1 tsp salt
Dash of pepper

Brown the ground beef in a skillet; drain off excess drippings. Place beef in a Crock Pot. Brown bacon and onions; drain. Add bacon, onions, and remaining ingredients to the pot. Stir together well. Cover and cook on Low for 4 to 6 hours. Makes 6 servings.

In attendance: me, Amanda, Laura, Lindsey, Jessica, Adam, Jill, and Jenny

Extra tidbits: cornbread muffins and a Vienna loaf from Meijer

To spare: none.
